15 Ideas to Boost Your Weight Loss Efforts
by: Irsan Komarga

1. Start your diet with a detox. Your body is full of toxins and waste due to the way you eat. The best way to kick-start a diet is by going through a detox to rid your body of all the waste and start fresh. There are many detox plans to choose from including: pills, special drinks, or strict diets involving lots of raw fruits and vegetables.

2. Turn off the TV. The TV is a time waster. You may plan to only sit down and rest your feet for a few minutes, but before you know it, hours have gone by and you haven't moved. Studies have made direct links between excessive TV watching and obesity. Turn off the TV and go for a walk.

3. Don't let your emotions dictate when and what you eat. So many people are emotional eaters, and that is unhealthy for your body, as well as your mind.

4. Don't buy bad foods that you will be tempted to eat. Obviously if you have a significant other or children who are not dieting, they won't be happy if you just rid the house of snack food. However, you can stop buying those snacks that you know you can't resist.

5. Stop drinking cow milk. Even low and no-fat cow milk is not good for you because of its mucus-forming ingredients. If you must have milk in your diet, try goat's milk or almond milk instead.

6. Flavor your food with natural herbs and spices instead of sauces and marinades. Avoid seasoning blends that contain high levels of sodium. Sodium will make you retain fluids and impede your weight loss.

7. If you prefer making your own soups or gravies, remove the fat from the top before you serve it.

8. Stop covering your vegetables with ranch dressing or cheese sauce. Raw vegetables are the healthiest thing you can possibly eat.

9. Avoid shopping while you are hungry. You will be more tempted to buy snack food or quick and easy overly processed foods. Make a list, eat a meal, and then go to the store.

10. Just stop eating deep fried food. There is nothing food or redeeming about it.

11. Try to eat more poultry or fish than beef or pork. When you do eat beef, buy lean beef. It should be 90% or more lean, and just don't eat pork.

12. Replace your overly-processed white bread with delicious whole-grain bread, pitas or tortillas.

13. Stop buying Mayonnaise, full-fat cream cheese or any other thick, fatter spread. Instead, try hummus or pesto. Plain yellow mustard is good too.

14. When cooking eggs or egg-based dishes such as quiche, try using egg substitutes or egg whites instead.

15. If you must cook your vegetables, don't cook them in butter or oil, you'll ruin them. Try cooking them in broth or better yet, lightly steam them with water.
